Should I use SEO Software

Search engine optimisation can be a laborious job that is why there are several tools out there to make your life easier but is their any substitute for human intervention? This article describes some search engine optimisation software and tools and discuss the pros and cons of each. As said there are many available but automating your SEO can be dangerous as every website is different and some of the advice these tools give you can be of little help.

Directory submission software

Many webmasters feel submitting to lots of directories can help their website rank better. Unfortunately submitting to web directories can be time consuming as you have to first best identify the most suited category to your website. You then have To manually type your website title, description and keyphrases in to the web form before submitting. So to do this on a large scale can take a long time. However there is help with directory submission software, what this software will do is automatically fill in you’re the directories submission form. All you need to do is set up the form details in advance and the software will fill in the details. The problem arises where you have to select a category as every directory has different names for their categories there are no way to automatically do this. It’s been seen claiming by some software that it can do this for you but I don’t believe that is truly achievable. So in conclusion you can purchases software that can cut don’t the time it takes to submit to directories but there is no way at present to do it fully automatically.

Article submission software

The same applies to articles submission as it does to directories however the same problems arise but you should really only submit your article to one directory as duplicate content issues will arise and most article directories want the articles that they are displaying to be original so the best approach to this is just doing it manually. Although there is software available to do this but it is not recommended for the above reasons.

Ranking checking Software

If you have many keyphrases that you are optimising your website for this also can be a time consuming task checking your current ranking over all the major search engines. There is many software and indeed websites that can check your rankings. The problem with this is that the search engines don’t like you doing this as it takes up unnecessary bandwidth on their servers. Google used to give you an API key for you to do this but since have stopped this service. Matt Cutts was asked if Google would ever offer this service through the webmaster tools section of their website. The response was that this was a popular request and Google may in the future offer a tool for you to check some of your rankings. Matt went on to say that you should not focus to much on rankings and more on the ROI of your website by using Google analytics to best identify your keyphrases that are converting. Some people say ranking is dead but I think you need rankings to get you the traffic from the search engines in the first place. Ranking software also won’t tell you how your competitors are doing and it is always a good idea to track what they are up to. Although within the Google webmasters tools section of your Google account there is a section to view your top performing keyphrases.

PageRank Checker

There are websites that let you check you’re Google PageRank but if you have the Google toolbar installed on your web browser you can see this information every time you visit a website. Future PageRank tools can be quiet handy if you know there is a PageRank update in progress and want to check your PageRank across different data centres to see if your PageRank has increased.

Organic snippet Tools

This tool lets you preview your webpage as it will look in the organic search results. This tool is handy because you can see how your page will look before it gets indexed as once it gets indexed it can take weeks before the search engine display any changes you may have made. Do a search on Google for “snippet optimizer” and you will find this great little tool.

Keyphrases density

This tool is pretty redundant. The best way to write content for the search engines is don’t. Write your content so it reads well and is informative about your subject matter and you will on most occasions find that the content is naturally keyphrase rich.
